Gerrard is a fair player declares Portsmouth boss
Posted on March 16th, 2010 | by From in All Blogs,Just LiverpoolSteven Gerrard is getting some stick today but one person that has come to his support is Avram Grant the Portsmouth manager and if anyone should have a complaint it is him.
Benitez also refused to get drawn in to the debate saying
“They were asking me about it, but I didn’t see it. I prefer to enjoy the game, I haven’t seen it but I was asking and I think it was nothing.
He also gave reasoning to Gerrard being substituted shortly after the incident, suggesting it was decided already. “We were thinking of changing (Fernando) Torres, Glen Johnson and Gerrard and we did it.”
Asked if he was worried the skipper could miss the vital game vs Man Utd next week through an FA disciplinary action his response was: “I don’t think so,”
The Pompey boss Avram Grant also says he didn’t see the incident either. “I didn’t see it. I will speak with Michael Brown and then I will tell you,” he admitted. “They told me the referee was four meters away from this so I think the referee needs to see from four meters what I didn’t from 40 meters. He missed a lot of things.
“Personally, I like Steven Gerrard. I think he is a good player and a fair player,”
Indeed the incident looked like a normal ‘coming together’ in real-time play. Only a slow-motion replay would reveal an elbow was used, and probably more instinctive than intentional.
